Homosassa Accessibility Overview
Terrain and Pathways
Pathway Surfaces: Paths throughout the park are a mix of cement, asphalt, lumber rock, grass, and temporary boardwalks. Most pathways are level and made of lumber rock. Some temporary walkways are in place due to recent storm damage.
Hurricane Impact: In August 2024, Homosassa was affected by two hurricanes. While most areas remain accessible, certain walkways and access points have been impacted. Full operational recovery is expected within 2–3 years. Temporary pathways are in place but may be challenging to navigate, especially for guests using mobility aids.
Park Distance: The full park experience covers over 2 miles of walking.
Public Areas
Accessible Areas: Most public areas remain accessible.
Underwater Observatory: Not accessible. It includes approximately 16 stairs with a landing and railings; there is no elevator.
Visitor Center:
The elevator is currently out of service.
Guests unable to use the 7 steps to the boat dock or tram station can access a modified walkway around the Visitor Center.
Once construction is complete, the interior will feature a seamless linoleum floor for durability and accessibility.
Pepper Creek Restaurant:
Currently not ADA accessible due to elevator outage. Access requires climbing 12 stairs.
The restaurant is closed for daily lunch service until further notice.
Tram Service:
A lift is available on the tram for guests who require it.
Doors and Flooring
Doors: All building entry doors are equipped with automatic push-button openers, except for restroom doors, which are manual.
Flooring:
Current surfaces include a mix of vinyl composite tile (VCT), hardwood, and carpet.
Cement walkways throughout the park may include temporary patches due to hurricane damage.
The updated Visitor Center will feature poured linoleum flooring to create a durable, seamless surface.
Boat Tours
The park’s boat tour is ADA accessible.
A dedicated ramp accommodates both wheelchairs and electric convenience vehicles (ECVs).
Boats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If a vessel has already reached capacity for mobility devices, guests may be asked to wait for the next available departure.
Restaurant (Pepper Creek)
Status: Closed for daily lunch service until further notice.
Accessibility: Not currently ADA accessible due to the elevator being out of service. Access requires 12 stairs.
Allergy and Dietary Accommodations:
Staff make every effort to accommodate food allergies; however, meals are prepared in a shared kitchen with potential allergen exposure.
Gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options are available when dining is open.
