EXPLORE AND CONNECT WITH FLORIDA’S NATIVE SPECIES

Explore Native Florida Wildlife at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park

Discover native Florida wildlife up close at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, a top family-friendly attraction proudly managed by Guest Services, Inc. Stroll the Wildlife Trail to see alligators, manatees, black bears, red wolves, and more. These animals now call the park home due to injuries or other circumstances that prevent their return to the wild. Be sure to visit Lu the Hippopotamus, the park’s most iconic resident and the oldest hippo in captivity. Whether you’re a nature lover or simply looking for unforgettable things to do in Florida, this unique park offers a one-of-a-kind glimpse into the state’s incredible natural heritage.

All Aboard!

*Daily Tours* Our delightful 15-min Boat Tour departs from the Visitor Center Boat Dock and makes its breezy way through Pepper Creek towards the West Entrance of the Park. Once you arrive at the West Entrance Dock, the entrance to the Wildlife Walk is across the street. The boat ride is $5.00 or you can walk or take a tram on Pepper Creek Trail for free.

Meet Lu

The world’s oldest—and arguably most legendary—hippopotamus under professional care just hit a jaw-dropping milestone! This lovable giant celebrated an incredible 65 years on January 26, 2025, proving that age is just a number when you’re a true icon!

An Aquatic Wonderland

*Currently Closed & Under Construction* The Underwater Observatory, also known as The Fish Bowl, floats in the main spring. It offers an up-close view of the gorgeous water, seasonal schools of fish, and adorable manatees.

Look to the Sky… And Trees

The 0.75-mile Pepper Creek Birding Trail runs from the visitor center parking area and loops through the parking areas at the West Park Entrance. This trail is one of 20 birding trails in Citrus County that are part of the Great Florida Birding Trail.
